Drunk Driver Causes Serious Collision on A111 in Berlin

A late-night traffic incident on the Stadtautobahn A111 in Berlin's Reinickendorf district resulted in a serious collision involving two vehicles. The accident occurred around 0:45 AM when a 28-year-old man operating an Opel was directed by his GPS to make a U-turn on the Kurt-Schumacher-Damm and mistakenly entered the highway in the wrong direction.

As the Opel driver proceeded southbound, he collided head-on with a Dacia, driven by a 21-year-old man, who was also traveling in the same direction. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the Opel driver had a blood alcohol concentration of nearly two grams per liter, indicating significant intoxication.

Following the crash, the Opel driver sustained severe head injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. After undergoing a blood test and receiving care, he was later discharged. His 27-year-old passenger escaped with only minor injuries. Conversely, the driver of the Dacia suffered serious head injuries and required hospitalization for further treatment.

The accident necessitated the closure of the A111 southbound lane from approximately 0:50 AM until 3:00 AM to facilitate rescue and cleanup operations. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, emphasizing the dangers of impaired driving.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential consequences of driving under the influence and the importance of adhering to road safety regulations.
