Dresden witnessed a shocking incident on February 22, 2025, when a 33-year-old man was violently attacked at Wiener Platz, near the entrance of the city's main train station. Eyewitnesses reported the incident to the police after spotting the injured man, who was bleeding and in distress.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim was targeted by a group of individuals who hurled bottles at him and continued to kick him while he was on the ground. Additionally, they employed irritant gas against him during the assault. The attackers fled the scene heading towards Wiener Platz.

Authorities swiftly responded to the emergency, providing immediate medical assistance to the victim and calling for an ambulance. Upon further examination, it was discovered that the 33-year-old Algerian man was wanted in connection with two outstanding warrants related to his residency status. In a search of his clothing, police officers found a small bag containing a green, plant-like substance, suspected to be cannabis, along with a significant amount of cash.

Subsequent efforts by law enforcement in the vicinity led to the apprehension of a 19-year-old Tunisian suspect, who resisted arrest. He is now facing charges of aggravated assault. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old victim is also potentially liable for violating local cannabis consumption laws. The investigation has been handed over to the Saxony police, who will continue to probe the incident further.

This incident raises concerns about public safety in urban areas and highlights the need for increased vigilance and preventive measures to curb such violent acts.
