Double portion of Pizza and Robben

Two former Chelsea players, Arjen Robben and Claudio Pizarro, each scored twice as Bayern Munich cruised into the last 16 of the German Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win against 2nd division Kaiserslautern.

Another full house at the Allianz Arena saw the evergreen Peruvian Pizarro open the scoring on 11 minutes latching onto a measured through ball from captain for the night Robben, before smashing the ball low past Sippel. The visitors, unbeaten so far this season, had their chances to equalise with their journeyman striker Mohammadou Idrissou wasting the Red Devils' best openings. FCB doubled their lead four minutes after half time as Robben fired in a trademark left footed finish after FCK failed to clear their lines.

''Pizza'' delivered his second with a powerful header from a Shaqiri set-play just before the hour mark. Robben, visibly relishing his role as captain, applied the final gloss to the scoreline with his second two minutes from time. The Dutch winger was full of praise for the potent Pizarro after the game. ''He's a proven striker and it's really great to play up front with him.''

Rotation is all the rage these days in the modern game. Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes didn't just rotate; he savagely applied the axe, making nine changes to the side that surprisingly succumbed to Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Sunday. Only Jerome Boateng and David Alaba survived the cull and retained their starting spots. Captain Philipp Lahm and vice Bastian Schweinsteiger had a night off and weren't even named in the squad. There was a senior debut for Mitch Weiser late on, replacing Rafinha.
