The leading European trade fair for digital health, DMEA, is set to move its venue from Berlin to Munich beginning in April 2027. This strategic relocation was jointly announced by the German Association for Health IT (bvitg) and Messe München, signaling a new phase for the event as it aims to expand its international reach and influence.
Previously hosted in Berlin for several years, the DMEA has established itself as a central platform for digital health innovations, drawing participants from across the healthcare sector including technology providers, healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers. According to the organizers, the decision to move to Munich was driven by the increasing scale and internationalization of the event, necessitating a venue with greater capacity and advanced infrastructure.
The upcoming DMEA is scheduled to take place from April 13 to 15, 2027 at the Messe München exhibition center. The new location is expected to provide additional space for exhibitors and attendees, as well as opportunities to introduce new event and congress formats that cater to a growing and diverse audience. Organizers emphasize that Munich's well-developed exhibition and conference facilities, alongside its excellent international connectivity, make it an ideal venue for the evolving needs of the digital health industry.
Munich is widely recognized as a major hub for technology and healthcare in Europe. The city is home to a dense network of hospitals, research institutions, universities, medical technology companies, and startups. The proximity to these key players is expected to enrich the DMEA program, facilitating greater collaboration between academia, industry, and healthcare providers. Despite the relocation, the event's focus on fostering connections between politics, industry, research, and end users will remain unchanged, ensuring that the congress continues to serve as a crucial meeting point for the digital health sector.
The venue shift also reflects the rapid development of the DMEA in recent years, as it has transitioned from a primarily national conference to a leading European gathering for digital healthcare innovation. Organizers believe that Munich's capabilities will support further growth and reinforce the event's role as a central marketplace for digital health solutions, technologies, and best practices.
With the departure of DMEA from Berlin, Messe Berlin and the industry association Bitkom have announced plans to launch a new event, the Smart Health Conference, in 2027. Scheduled for the same timeframe traditionally occupied by the DMEA, this new conference aims to establish itself as another internationally oriented platform for digital health stakeholders in the German capital. The Smart Health Conference is expected to continue addressing key topics in digital health, ensuring that Berlin remains a significant location for industry dialogue and innovation.
Both the DMEA in Munich and the upcoming Smart Health Conference in Berlin are anticipated to contribute to the ongoing transformation of healthcare through digitalization. These events will offer platforms for knowledge exchange, showcase emerging technologies, and promote collaboration across sectors, ultimately supporting the advancement of healthcare delivery and patient care across Europe.
