The Bavarian International School (BIS) City Campus in Munich is more than just a school--it is a vibrant, forward-thinking learning environment where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. On April 1, 2025, BIS invites prospective families to experience this exceptional learning atmosphere firsthand during its Open Day.
A Unique Educational Experience
Located in Munich-Schwabing, the BIS City Campus welcomes over 300 students from more than 40 nationalities, offering an enriching all-day education for children aged three to eleven (up to Grade 5). The school is deeply committed to providing a nurturing, family-like atmosphere where children feel valued and inspired.
"Our students arrive with smiles and leave full of enthusiasm. This is what BIS City Campus is all about--creating a place where learning is fun, holistic, and empowering," says Owen Murphy, Principal of BIS City Campus.
Personalised and Holistic Education
BIS follows the internationally renowned IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), which promotes individualised learning, critical thinking, and creativity. "We take an individual approach to each child, giving them a voice and ownership over their learning. This fosters independence and prepares them for a rapidly changing world," explains Nicola Moloney, Vice Principal of BIS City Campus.
From the Early Childhood Centre (Kindergarten EC0-EC1 and Preschool EC2), children engage in play-based learning, developing essential social, emotional, and cognitive skills. This strong foundation sets them on a path of lifelong learning and success.
A Curriculum That Builds Future Skills
At BIS, education goes beyond traditional subjects. Students develop vital future skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and resilience. Whether it's stepping into the role of Nelson Mandela during an assembly, coding a learning robot, or contributing to the Eco-School team, children are encouraged to explore, innovate, and lead.
With English as the primary language of instruction, students gain global fluency, while German is integrated into the curriculum with five dedicated lessons per week.
Excellence in Education
BIS is renowned for its academic excellence, offering a world-class faculty and ensuring lessons are never cancelled. The dedicated teaching staff is complemented by specialists in educational technology, learning support, language development, counselling, and healthcare.
"BIS is not a special school (Förderschule); it is a school of high academic standards, preparing students for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, which opens doors to top universities worldwide," adds Principal Murphy. Each year, BIS students achieve IB DP scores four to five points above the global average, surpassing even the Bavarian Abitur scores.
A School Designed for the Future
State-of-the-art resources--including iPads, learning robots, a modern library, a gym, and playground facilities--enhance the learning experience. Additional After-School Activities (ASA), extended afternoon care until 18:00, a lunchtime kitchen, and a bus service ensure students and parents receive the best possible support.
BIS is continuously evolving, with its next major milestone being the Creativity & Innovation Centre (CIC) at the Haimhausen Campus. This cutting-edge facility will provide students with flexible, interdisciplinary learning spaces, science and computer labs, and design studios, reinforcing BIS's commitment to innovation in education.
