Vitali Klitschko (45-2) had a nice easy night in Moscow on Saturday, cruising to a 4th round stoppage win over Germany's Manuel ''Diamond Boy'' Charr (21-1).

Charr was typically covered up and offered very little for Klitschko to work with. He was put down in the second round before being cut over his right eye in the fourth. With blood gushing from a seemingly small laceration the referee, upon advice from the ringside doctor ended the rather dull encounter and in doing so sent Charr into a rage.

Upon hearing the Doctor's verdict, Charr was furious, suddenly allowing his aggression to rise to the surface. He did apologise on-air for his outburst shortly afterwards and said "Everyone who knows me knows that I never give up. Vitali is a great champion but he didn't win today - it was the doctor who won the bout. It was not our corner's decision".

The big Ukrainian powerhouse was well ahead on points and dominated his Syrian-born opponent up until the stoppage. He wasn't particularly busy and at 41 years of age was surely thankful to Charr for allowing him to pick his shots without breaking into a sweat.

The only excuse one can imagine for Charr's lack of action and enthusiasm was that he was planning on tiring out the champion and then taking advantage in the later rounds. Those are poor tactics against such an experienced opponent who proved back in February that going the distance is still within his capabilities.

Dreams of a rematch were quickly dismissed by Klitschko who feels that others are more deserving of a bout with the legendary heavyweight and asked whether this was his last professional boxing fight he replied "Nothing is impossible".

Those words will sound like music to the ears of Britain's David Haye who still harbours hopes of a showdown with the elder of the Klitschko brothers since losing a points decision against the younger sibling, Wladimir, in 2011. He was critical of the stoppage and felt some sympathy for Charr.

Never one to mince his words Haye remarked on Twitter, "I feel for Charr, as if roles were reversed, do you think K2's regular German Doctor would have stopped Vitali Klitschko? I think people now know why I insisted on having a British Dr. be the one who looks at my cuts during the Wlad fight!"

Klitschko will now take some time away from boxing and focus his energy on winning parliamentary elections in Kiev this October. The outcome of those elections may determine whether he decides to fight on or pull the curtain down on his illustrious boxing career for good.

"I'm 41 and I'm still boxing, but one cannot trick nature - I will have to hang my gloves on a nail soon."
