Munich. Mould, cockroaches, mice faeces and cigarette stubs were discovered by food inspectors in a well established bakery. The owner agreed to a penalty fee for the unhygienic conditions.
The court decision for Johann H. and his son Johann Karl due to violation of the food law, has now been finalised. They will have to pay penalties of 18,000 and 6000 Euro respectively.
In November 2008, food inspectors found the bakery in a terrible state: black mould, living and dead cockroaches, faeces from mice who nibbled on the insulation of the cooling systems, cigarette stubs and a slime covered floor. The long-established company with 11 branches in the area was not subject to closure in 2008, despite having received an immense fine. The chairman of the Appeals Chamber questioned the chief inspectors decision, he defended himself saying: "We have done our work and a criminal procedure is on its way."
The local court sentenced the father and son to the aforementioned penalities. A new claim has been filed citing dirt in the bake house but has not yet been approved.
