Following the recent severe weather, cleanup operations in the Harz region have been completed. In Bavaria, numerous roads were inundated with mud on Wednesday, but new storms are already on the horizon.

According to meteorological reports, a low-pressure system named Günter is set to bring significant rainfall and potential hazards across central Germany on Friday. The affected areas will span from North Rhine-Westphalia to Saxony, with widespread, persistent rain expected.

Experts warn that the combination of continuous rain and localized heavy downpours could lead to serious complications, particularly in regions with challenging topography where flash floods may develop rapidly.

The current weather conditions are deemed critical, with forecasts predicting rainfall amounts between 30 to 50 liters per square meter within the next 18 to 24 hours. In the event of thunderstorms, localized precipitation could exceed these amounts.

On Wednesday evening, heavy rain fell for several hours, causing significant repercussions. In and around Osterwieck and the Huy municipality, basements were flooded. Authorities in the Harz district temporarily closed three county roads due to flooding, although they were reopened by Thursday afternoon.

More than 200 emergency responders from 22 municipalities participated in cleanup efforts as streams and smaller rivers overflowed. Thunderstorms also affected parts of Bavaria, where a vacant building in Augsburg caught fire, and heavy storms occurred in the Munich district and Rosenheim.
