Charges Filed Against Suspect in Hammer Assault Case

Tue 6th May, 2025

Berlin - Disturbing footage from a surveillance camera has emerged, showing a man being held captive and brutally assaulted with a hammer. The alleged perpetrator, identified as Ramtin A., a 43-year-old resident of Berlin, is currently in pre-trial detention. The Berlin public prosecutor's office has officially filed charges against him, accusing him of severe bodily harm and unlawful detention.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 25, 2021, when Ramtin A. encountered the victim, now 31 years old, on Auguststraße in Berlin-Mitte around 1 p.m. Without provocation, he allegedly began to physically assault the victim. The victim was subsequently transported to an office space in Berlin-Neukölln, where the brutal treatment continued.

According to the prosecution, Ramtin A. attempted to disable the surveillance cameras in the office, but they continued to record. For two hours, he allegedly berated the victim with accusations of theft and fraud, blaming him for the loss of business partners. The assault escalated as Ramtin A. is accused of beating the victim with his fists and ultimately with a hammer, threatening him with death and causing significant injuries that have left the victim suffering both physically and psychologically.

In an alarming twist, Ramtin A. is also alleged to have taken photographs of his victim to intimidate other business associates. After enduring eight hours of torture, the victim was finally released but felt compelled to flee abroad due to fears for his safety.

This case first gained public attention in February 2024 when it was reported that a warrant for Ramtin A.'s arrest had not been issued at that time. The public prosecutor's office stated that the legal criteria for such a warrant were not met, and they assessed that there was no flight risk as the suspect had not left the country despite the seriousness of the charges.

However, following further investigation, Ramtin A. was placed on the wanted list and apprehended on April 16. He has since been in custody awaiting trial. Legal experts suggest that he is likely facing a substantial prison sentence if convicted.

As of now, Ramtin A.'s legal representation has not responded to multiple inquiries from the media.
