Celle - A significant grass fire erupted in the Altenceller Feld area on July 4, 2025, causing considerable alarm among local residents. The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM when a group of children discovered a lighter and ignited a piece of paper. In a panic, they discarded the burning paper into a bush, which quickly ignited due to the prevailing dry conditions and gusty winds.

The blaze expanded rapidly, covering an estimated area of 120,000 square meters. Firefighting crews were promptly dispatched to the scene and worked diligently to contain and extinguish the fire. While emergency services managed to bring the situation under control, the firefighting efforts led to traffic disruptions on the B214/B3, impacting local commuters and travelers.

Authorities are reminding the public about the serious dangers associated with fire play, particularly in dry weather conditions. Such incidents not only pose risks to property but also to the safety of individuals and wildlife in the affected areas. The local fire department urges parents to educate their children about fire safety and the importance of handling fire-related materials responsibly.
