Cathy Hummels, a well-known influencer, has recently reported a distressing incident involving her Instagram account being hacked and subsequently used for extortion. In a video shared on her Instagram, Hummels revealed that she lost access to her account for 24 hours, during which a hacker took control of her profile.

According to Hummels, the hacker not only accessed her posts and private messages but also threatened her by demanding a ransom of at least 4,000 euros. The hacker went as far as to publicly announce that her account was for sale, adding to the anxiety of Hummels and her followers.

In her video, Hummels expressed her fear and frustration, describing the situation as an overwhelming experience. After a challenging period, she managed to regain control of her account with the assistance of Meta, the parent company of Instagram. She expressed relief at being able to recover her profile.

To prevent similar incidents, Hummels advised her followers to take precautions with their online security. She emphasized the importance of creating strong passwords, storing them securely rather than on mobile devices, and enabling two-factor authentication. Additionally, she warned against responding to suspicious emails or clicking on dubious links.
