Carlo Ancelotti Leaves Real Madrid to Coach Brazil National Team

Carlo Ancelotti's tenure at Real Madrid is coming to an end as he prepares to take over as head coach of Brazil's national team. This transition opens the door for Xabi Alonso, the current manager of Bayer 04 Leverkusen and a former player for Madrid, who has long been viewed as Ancelotti's successor. Alonso, who achieved notable success in 2024 by winning both the Bundesliga title and the DFB-Pokal with Leverkusen, has already been formally bid farewell by the club. He is expected to lead Real Madrid during the upcoming Club World Cup, which starts on June 15 in the United States.

Rumors regarding Ancelotti's move to Brazil have circulated for some time. Initially, he was set to take charge of the Seleção last summer but opted to remain with Real Madrid. There were also reports of a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia. Ancelotti's second stint with Madrid began in 2021, and its conclusion this summer follows a disappointing campaign. Despite winning the La Liga title and the Champions League the previous season, this year has been less successful for the team.

Real Madrid faced a significant setback in the Champions League, exiting in the quarter-finals against Arsenal. Additionally, in the Copa del Rey final, they lost to arch-rivals FC Barcelona, a defeat that is particularly painful for Madrid supporters. The La Liga title also appears to be slipping away, with Barcelona firmly in control. Just recently, Real Madrid suffered a thrilling 4-3 defeat in the Clásico against a Barcelona side managed by former Germany national team coach Hansi Flick.
