BSR Employee Discovers Explosive Device at Berlin Recycling Center

In a routine inspection, a staff member of the Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) made a startling find at a recycling facility in Schmargendorf, Berlin. During his patrol on Thursday morning, he uncovered a grenade-like explosive hidden behind a container. The incident was reported by the Berlin police, who confirmed the discovery occurred around 11:00 AM at the BSR site located on Forckenbeckstraße.

Upon identifying the dangerous item, the BSR employee promptly notified law enforcement authorities. In response, specialized units from the Landeskriminalamt (LKA) were dispatched to the scene to safely manage and dispose of the explosive device. Following the secure handling of the situation, operations at the recycling center resumed without further interruption.

According to regulations under the Explosives Act, spherical bombs are classified as F4 (large fireworks) and may only be handled by individuals with the necessary expertise and official permits. The presence of such items poses significant public safety concerns, particularly as Berlin has witnessed an increase in incidents involving fireworks and explosives, especially around New Year's Eve.

Just a month ago, law enforcement conducted a raid in Schöneberg as part of an investigation into explosions that occurred during the last New Year celebrations, leading to the seizure of various pyrotechnic items. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the importance of public awareness regarding the dangers posed by unregulated explosives.
