Brutal Handbag Theft in Hagen Leaves Woman Injured

Hagen has been rocked by a violent handbag theft incident that occurred on September 30, 2025. A 57-year-old woman became the victim of a robbery around 10:38 AM, resulting in the loss of a significant amount of cash totaling five figures.

The incident took place at the intersection of Märkische Straße and Rolandstraße. According to reports, the assailant, described as a masked male, approached the victim from behind and forcefully attempted to snatch her handbag. During the struggle, the woman fell to the ground, and the robber continued to exert force until he successfully secured the handbag and fled the scene.

Eyewitnesses in a passing vehicle observed the masked man during the incident. One witness exited the vehicle and pursued the suspect on foot. The thief managed to escape by entering a waiting car, which bore foreign license plates. Although the witness returned to his vehicle to continue the chase, the getaway car ran a red light, prompting the witnesses to discontinue their pursuit.

The suspect is described as a middle-aged man of average build, notably limping during his escape. The driver of the getaway vehicle is said to be between 40 and 50 years old, with blonde hair and a beard. The vehicle itself was noted to have foreign registration.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Hagen police department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or seen the fleeing vehicle to come forward. Information regarding the model of the getaway car, license plate details, or any video footage could be critical to the investigation. Additionally, anyone who finds an orange handbag matching the victim's description is asked to refrain from touching it and to contact the police.
