On Tuesday, a significant security incident occurred at Brussels' Charleroi Airport, where a Ryanair flight was subjected to a bomb threat. The aircraft, which had arrived from Porto, Portugal, is currently parked at the airport, and passengers remain onboard while authorities conduct thorough investigations.
Reports indicate that the flight, which is one of the airline's budget carriers, was carrying 166 passengers at the time of the incident. In response to the bomb threat, airport officials established a secure perimeter around the aircraft, necessitating the closure of both the runway and the taxiway, thereby halting all flight operations.
According to a statement from the airport, the bomb threat was reported shortly before 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Media sources, including the British publication "Mirror," have detailed that a security zone extending 500 meters around the aircraft has been implemented to ensure the safety of all individuals involved.
Authorities are currently assessing the situation and have urged passengers to remain calm as they work diligently to address the threat. It remains unclear how long the disruption will continue, but the airport is prioritizing safety as investigations proceed.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding aviation security and the measures airports must take to ensure the safety of travelers.
