Attack on Bremen Man Highlights Growing Concerns Over Homophobia

Bremen - A 27-year-old man was assaulted in the city center of Bremen on August 30, 2025, due to his sexual orientation. The incident occurred at approximately 7:20 PM outside a supermarket located on Obernstraße.

A group of five individuals approached the victim and his partner, with one member of the group hurling multiple insults, including derogatory slurs. As the couple entered the supermarket, the group followed them, continuing their harassment.

When the victim expressed his intention to call the police, two men from the group physically attacked him. They kicked him in the leg and struck him in the head before fleeing the scene.

The police have released descriptions of the assailants. The first attacker is described as being between 17 and 20 years old, approximately 180 cm tall, with a dark complexion, shoulder-length black hair, and facial hair including a mustache and goatee. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black T-shirt, gray jeans, and black shoes. The second attacker, also between 17 and 20 years old and of similar height, was noted to have curly blonde hair and was wearing a black cap, a brown and white checkered shirt, dark blue jeans, and black Nike shoes.

An immediate search for the suspects yielded no results. The Bremen police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could assist in identifying the attackers to contact the criminal investigation department at 0421 362-3888.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about homophobic violence in public spaces and the need for increased awareness and protection for the LGBTQ+ community.
