Bremen Airport Incident: Passenger's Keychain Causes Security Alert

Tue 29th Apr, 2025

Bremen - An unusual security incident occurred at Bremen Airport on April 28, 2025, when a passenger's hand luggage was flagged during a routine security check. Security personnel discovered what appeared to be a rifle cartridge within the traveler's belongings.

Upon further investigation by the Federal Police, it was determined that the item was a modified, non-functional cartridge designed to serve as a keychain. The 40-year-old passenger from Bremen reportedly did not realize that the accessory could lead to complications.

Although the cartridge lacked any explosive charge, its resemblance to real ammunition prompted concerns regarding its presence in the airport's secure area. The Federal Police emphasized that not only actual firearms or ammunition are prohibited, but also items that closely mimic real weapons, which can result in extended security measures and potentially cause travelers to miss their flights.

Fortunately for the individual involved, their scheduled flight to Istanbul remained unaffected, despite the confiscation of the keychain by authorities. However, the passenger may face a fine, as carrying such items in the airport's security zone is classified as a regulatory offense.

The incident serves as a reminder to all travelers regarding the importance of adhering to security regulations. The Federal Police continue to advise passengers to be cautious when packing their belongings and to ensure that all items comply with airport safety standards.
