OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Indiana Pacers' season ended in heartbreak as star guard Tyrese Haliburton suffered a right leg injury during Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Haliburton, who was already dealing with a calf strain, collapsed on the court, leading to immediate concern among teammates and fans.

In a tense moment with just under five minutes left in the first quarter, Haliburton fell to the floor, visibly frustrated, and was unable to put weight on his injured leg. Initial assessments indicate a possible Achilles tendon injury, which was echoed by Haliburton's father shortly after the incident. An MRI is anticipated to confirm the diagnosis, but preliminary evaluations suggest significant concern.

Despite a promising start where Indiana held a narrow lead at halftime, the absence of Haliburton proved detrimental. The Pacers struggled offensively, managing only 43 points in the second half, ultimately losing the game 103-91. The Pacers were left to cope with the loss of their best player at a critical juncture.

Pacers guard TJ McConnell praised Haliburton's character, noting his willingness to support teammates even in difficult circumstances. Haliburton was seen greeting players as they exited the court, demonstrating his commitment to the team despite his own pain.

After the injury, Haliburton was escorted to the locker room, where medical staff evaluated him. The scene on the court was emotional, with players from both teams showing concern for Haliburton's well-being. Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was among those who offered support, acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

Pacers coach Rick Carlisle expressed hope for Haliburton's recovery, indicating that he expected the player to return stronger. However, the injury adds to a troubling trend as injuries have significantly impacted the playoffs this season. Notably, Boston's Jayson Tatum and Milwaukee's Damian Lillard have also faced serious injuries that could affect their futures on the court.

Haliburton, who previously contributed to the U.S. Olympic team's gold medal victory in Paris, had been undergoing various treatments to manage his calf strain throughout the Finals. His determination to compete was evident, although the risks he took ultimately led to a dire situation for both him and the Pacers.

As the season concludes, the Pacers now face an uncertain offseason, with Haliburton's health a priority as they look ahead to future campaigns. The team will need to regroup and consider their strategies moving forward, especially in light of the injuries that marked this playoff run.
