Trump pledges over $400m to boost Republican midterm campaign
US President Donald Trump has said he intends to commit more than $400 million to support Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, as his party seeks to retain control of Congress.
Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the bulk of this amount, over $300 million, had already gone toward advertising, voter outreach, rallies, telerallies, get-out-the-vote efforts and election integrity initiatives.
He described the funding as a way of supporting the Republican Party, which he credited with helping the country recover from a period of serious difficulty. He also characterised the upcoming midterms as the most significant in the nation's history.
Trump did not provide specific details on how the money would be distributed across individual races.
The announcement comes as the Republican Party faces challenges ahead of the vote, including criticism over economic conditions and the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Recent polling indicates a decline in Trump's public approval. A survey conducted this week by Reuters and Ipsos found that only 31 percent of Americans approved of his performance in office.
