Trump Organization Pursues Major Investment Ventures in Vietnam
HANOI - The Trump Organization, in collaboration with its local partner, is set to embark on significant investment projects in Vietnam, focusing on the development of golf courses, hotels, and real estate developments. This initiative involves billions of dollars and is advancing despite potential tariff implications from the United States.
Reports indicate that the Trump Organization, the family business of former U.S. President Donald Trump, is moving forward with its plans amid the backdrop of increasing trade tensions. Vietnam's trade surplus with the United States has prompted concerns, with the country exporting goods equivalent to 30% of its GDP to the U.S. last year. In response to these trade imbalances and to mitigate tariff risks, Vietnam has committed to enhancing imports from the U.S. and reducing tariffs and non-tariff barriers.
As part of this strategy, Vietnam is also allowing the entry of foreign companies like Elon Musk's Starlink to provide satellite internet services while maintaining control over local subsidiaries. This move aligns with Vietnam's efforts to foster a more advantageous trade relationship with the United States.
The Trump Organization's spokesperson revealed that the first project, valued at $1.5 billion, is located near Hanoi and is expected to break ground in May. This project will feature three 18-hole golf courses and a residential complex, marking it as the largest initiative undertaken by the Trump Organization in East Asia. The first two golf courses are projected to be operational by mid-2027.
Moreover, the consortium is exploring additional investments in Vietnam, including a prospective site for another golf or hotel project near Ho Chi Minh City, which is Vietnam's primary business hub. Specific details regarding the scale of this investment have yet to be disclosed, but an announcement is anticipated before the end of the year.
Last week, representatives from the Trump Organization met with Vietnam's Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, to discuss the upcoming ventures. The Trump Organization has previously maintained a significant presence in the golf and resort sector, which has been a key source of revenue for the company in the U.S.
With a population of approximately 100 million, Vietnam is home to around 70 golf courses and boasts a growing community of about 100,000 local golfers, according to the Vietnam Golf Association. The Trump Organization, led by Eric Trump, is expected to play a pivotal role in the management and operation of these new facilities.
