Tens of Thousands Rally Across Germany Against Far-Right AfD

Around 150,000 people took part in demonstrations across roughly 20 German cities on Saturday, protesting against the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The rallies followed the party's decisive win in a recent state election in Saxony-Anhalt, where it is now attempting to form what would be Germany's first extreme-right state government since World War II.

Demonstrations took place in major cities including Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. The protests were organised by the group Pruef, which campaigns for the AfD to be banned outright, according to organisers.

Protesters carried placards calling for an immediate ban on the party and asserting that democracy does not require alternatives of this kind.
