Iran sends conditions to US via Qatar to end war, security chief says

Iran has passed a formal list of conditions to the United States through Qatari mediators in an effort to end their ongoing war, according to the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei. Speaking to Al Jazeera's Tehran bureau chief Nour Eddine Edghir in an interview broadcast Saturday, Rezaei said Tehran remains in contact with Qatar, which has relayed Iran's terms to Washington, and that Iran is now waiting for a response from President Donald Trump.

Rezaei outlined Iran's demands as a complete halt to hostilities on all fronts, the release of Iran's frozen financial assets, and an end to a naval blockade. He argued it would serve Washington's interests to agree to these terms, dismissed threats from Trump as ineffective, and said Iran was ready for a prolonged conflict if necessary.

Qatar and Pakistan have been trying to restart negotiations between Iran and the US since a previous memorandum of understanding lapsed last month. The war began in late February when the US and Israel carried out strikes on Iran that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Rezaei said he could not exclude the possibility of another US strike, describing it as a realistic scenario based on Iran's military assessments, while maintaining that Iran was prepared. He noted that Iran's military strategy has evolved since two earlier phases of the conflict and is now concentrated on US naval forces across the Gulf, the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, though targets further out toward the Indian Ocean remain beyond Iran's current capabilities. He also said Iran had recently tested a multi-warhead antiship missile close to a US vessel or aircraft carrier, adding that the missile's warheads could undergo further development.
