Harry Kane Celebrates First Career Title as Bayern Munich Clinches Bundesliga Championship

Mon 5th May, 2025

In a momentous occasion for Harry Kane, the English forward has finally lifted his first career trophy after Bayern Munich secured the Bundesliga championship. This achievement was made possible by Freiburg's 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen, which ensured Bayern maintained an unassailable eight-point lead with only two matches left in the season.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kane had faced the misfortune of finishing as a runner-up or experiencing defeats in finals, which led some to label it a "curse" for a player of his caliber. Since joining Bayern as their record signing in 2023, Kane had been eager to make his mark, but the team faced a disappointing season without silverware for the first time since 2012.

On Saturday, Bayern seemed poised to celebrate their title when they led 3-2 against Leipzig, only for Yussuf Poulsen to equalize in stoppage time, delaying their victory party. However, the celebration was merely postponed. Teammate Thomas Müller had encouraged Kane with a lighthearted message on social media, saying, "Next week, Harry!"

Leverkusen, knowing they had already secured second place, appeared lackluster in their performance against Freiburg, understanding that Bayern's superior goal difference left them with little hope of reclaiming the title.

Freiburg initially took control of the match with a goal from Maximilian Eggestein before an own goal from Piero Hincapie solidified their lead. Although Leverkusen managed to equalize with goals from Florian Wirtz and Jonathan Tah late in the game, it had no bearing on the title race.

In a celebratory atmosphere at a Munich restaurant, Kane joined his teammates in singing and reveling in their long-awaited triumph. This marks Bayern Munich's record-extending 34th German championship and the first since the club's inception in 1932, with all subsequent titles won after the Bundesliga was established in 1963.

Bayern Munich is set to receive the championship trophy following their home match against Borussia Mönchengladbach next weekend. The occasion will also serve as an emotional farewell for Müller, who has enjoyed an extraordinary 25-year career at the club, leaving behind a legacy of 13 Bundesliga titles.

As the Bundesliga season draws to a close, Freiburg's draw keeps them in contention for Champions League qualification, sitting just one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund and two points clear of Leipzig. Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt maintained their position in third place with a draw against Mainz, keeping them four points ahead of Freiburg.

In other league action, Holstein Kiel enhanced their chances of avoiding relegation with a 3-1 victory over Augsburg, moving within one point of Heidenheim, who currently occupy the relegation playoff spot. Kiel's upcoming matches against Freiburg and Dortmund will be crucial in their battle for survival in the top tier.
