FA Chief Urges Infantino to Disclose FIFA World Cup Stake-Sale Documents

The chair of England's Football Association, Debbie Hewitt, has asked FIFA President Gianni Infantino to release all records connected to the now-abandoned proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup to private investors.

Infantino's plan collapsed quickly after widespread opposition within football, with UEFA threatening to boycott all FIFA competitions unless the idea was dropped.

Hewitt, who also serves as a FIFA vice-president and sits on the FIFA Council, sent a letter to Infantino requesting complete transparency on the matter before the Council's next meeting on October 15.

She also requested disclosure of documents relating to the decision to suspend a suspension imposed on United States forward Folarin Balogun during the World Cup, a decision that came after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Infantino.

Infantino issued an apology in August over how the private investment plan was handled, and FIFA's management board said a review would take place, though it has not disclosed who is conducting it.

UEFA has stated it no longer trusts Infantino and has filed legal requests in US courts seeking access to documents tied to the investment proposal.

UEFA has also pledged to put forward a credible challenger to run against Infantino at the FIFA Congress in March, with candidate nominations due by November 18.

Infantino confirmed earlier this month that he intends to seek re-election.
