Eight Skiers Lose Their Lives in Multiple Austrian Avalanches

Eight individuals have died following a series of avalanches that struck various regions of Austria, according to local authorities. Three separate incidents occurred within a single day, highlighting the severe avalanche risks currently present in the Alpine areas.

The first fatality was reported in the Bad Hofgastein area, located in western Austria. A female skier was caught in an avalanche at an altitude of approximately 2,200 meters, resulting in her burial beneath the snow. Shortly after this initial event, a second avalanche occurred in the Gastein Valley, situated south of Salzburg. In this incident, seven skiers were swept away by a sudden release of snow. A third avalanche was reported in Pusterwald, a town in central Austria, later the same afternoon. Three Czech nationals, who were skiing in the area with a group, were caught in the slide. Despite immediate rescue efforts, the three individuals could not be saved. The remaining four members of their party were successfully evacuated to safety.
