Young BMW Driver Crashes into Tree Group in Ilm-Kreis

Ilm-Kreis - An 18-year-old driver lost control of his BMW on July 25, 2025, while attempting to overtake another vehicle on the L1044, resulting in a severe accident. The incident occurred around 10:50 PM when the young man, who was traveling from Herschdorf, attempted to pass another car and subsequently spun out of control.

The BMW crashed into a cluster of trees, overturned, and ended up on its roof. A 15-year-old passenger was trapped in the wreckage and sustained critical injuries, necessitating immediate transport to the Klinikum Erfurt for urgent medical care. Both the driver and another 18-year-old passenger also suffered serious injuries and were taken to different hospitals in Arnstadt and Ilmenau.

The vehicle incurred significant damage, with an estimated total loss of around EUR5,000, and has since been secured by authorities. Emergency services, including volunteer fire brigades from Großbreitenbach and Herschdorf, responded promptly to provide technical assistance on the scene.
