BHC Women's Team Advances to Quarterfinals; Men's Team Faces Relegation Challenge

The Berlin Hockey Club (BHC) women's team has made a notable achievement by securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the 1st Field Hockey Bundesliga playoffs, standing out as the only team from Berlin to reach this stage. In contrast, both the women's team from the Zehlendorfer Wespen and the BHC men's team will enter the relegation playoffs.

In their final match of the regular season, the BHC women completed the round in seventh place despite a 2-4 loss to the league leaders, Mannheimer HC. The loss was mitigated by the UHC Hamburg's defeat against Köln, allowing the BHC to progress to the playoffs. National player Joana Boehringer opened the scoring for the BHC in the fifth minute, but the match eventually slipped away as Mannheimer HC turned the tide. Alessa Volkert managed to reduce the deficit in the third quarter with a penalty corner goal, bringing the final score to 2-4. The BHC women's next opponent in the quarterfinals will be the Düsseldorfer HC, the reigning German champions and second in the table, in a best-of-three series.

On the other hand, the Zehlendorfer Wespen women faced a disappointing end to their season, losing 0-3 at home to promoted side Bremer HC. This defeat leaves them at the bottom of the table, leading them into the relegation playoffs where they will battle against the ninth-placed Münchner SC to retain their league status.

The BHC men's team also confirmed their participation in the relegation playoffs, concluding the regular season with a 1-3 defeat against defending champions Mannheimer HC. Leon Schmidt scored the sole goal for the BHC in the 37th minute. In the upcoming relegation series, the BHC will have the home advantage against Münchner SC, who suffered a 2-4 loss at home to the Club an der Alster in their last match.
