Man Seriously Injured After Being Kicked Down Berlin Train Station Stairs by Teenagers

Mon 23rd Feb, 2026

A violent incident occurred at Berlin's Hermannstraße train station, where a 26-year-old man was severely injured after being kicked down a staircase by a group of teenagers. According to official reports, the assault took place in the evening hours when the victim engaged in conversation with four teenagers outside the station. After the initial encounter, the group left the area, but soon followed the man into the train station where the assault happened.

Surveillance footage revealed that three of the teenagers began recording the event on their mobile phones, while a fourth approached the man from behind and forcefully kicked him in the back, causing him to fall down the stairs. As a result, the victim suffered a head laceration and was admitted to a hospital with suspected traumatic brain injury. Emergency services were alerted by a bystander who witnessed the incident and provided immediate assistance.

Following the attack, the suspects fled the scene. Responsibility for the investigation was assumed by the federal police, as the incident occurred within the S-Bahn railway jurisdiction. The authorities are actively searching for the perpetrators and appealing for witnesses who may have information about the event. Video evidence from the station's security cameras has been secured to aid in the ongoing investigation. The release of these recordings for public assistance is being considered, but will only proceed if other investigative avenues are exhausted, as determined by the prosecutor's office.

At this stage, police have not disclosed whether the victim was waiting for a train or spending extended time inside the station, citing ongoing investigative procedures. Further details about the motive or circumstances remain under review as authorities continue to collect and analyze evidence.

This incident draws parallels to a notable 2016 event at the same station, in which a woman was also kicked down a staircase, resulting in serious injury. In that case, the attacker was later apprehended and sentenced to nearly three years in prison after medical evaluations found significant mental health and substance abuse issues.

Similar violent acts have occurred in train stations across Germany in recent years. In July 2024, for example, a man died in Uelzen station after being pushed down stairs by an 18-year-old, who was subsequently committed to a psychiatric facility due to mental illness influencing the crime. Additionally, in September 2021, a young woman was seriously injured in Osnabrück's main station when she was pushed down a stairway without provocation by another woman. These incidents have heightened concerns regarding safety in public transportation facilities and have prompted calls for increased security measures and vigilance among passengers and authorities alike.

The federal police continue to urge anyone with information regarding the recent Berlin assault to come forward, as they intensify efforts to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible for this violent attack.
