In a troubling incident at a Berlin primary school, a twelve-year-old student was seriously injured during a stabbing attack. The alleged attacker, a thirteen-year-old boy, has not yet been questioned by authorities due to medical reasons, leaving the motives behind the attack unclear.
According to a police spokesperson, the young suspect's well-being is the top priority, and it remains uncertain when he will be able to provide a statement. The police have indicated that they are unable to influence the timeline for the interview.
The stabbing occurred on May 22, when the thirteen-year-old allegedly used a knife to attack his classmate, who sustained life-threatening injuries and underwent surgery. As of the latest updates, the injured boy was still receiving treatment in a hospital.
After fleeing the scene, the suspect was apprehended following a large-scale search operation that lasted over 24 hours. He was eventually located at the Rathaus Spandau subway station. Currently, he is being held in a child and adolescent psychiatric facility.
Under German law, minors under the age of 14 are not subject to criminal prosecution. Despite this legal protection, the investigation is proceeding, with a homicide unit leading the case.
In an effort to understand the circumstances surrounding the attack, police have already interviewed classmates and teachers who witnessed the incident. They hope that the testimony of the thirteen-year-old will provide crucial insights, although they acknowledge that his account is not essential for concluding the investigation.
The community is on edge following this incident, and school officials are working to ensure the safety and well-being of students. As details emerge, the focus remains on understanding the causes and implications of such violent behavior among youth.
