Rail Replacement Services Disrupt S-Bahn Routes in Berlin Due to Construction

Sat 15th Nov, 2025

Significant disruptions are expected across the Berlin S-Bahn network this weekend as essential construction work is carried out on key railway infrastructure. Passengers traveling in the northern, southern, and eastern parts of the city are advised to prepare for changes to their usual routes, with multiple S-Bahn lines suspended and replaced by bus services.

The primary cause of the disruptions is the upgrade and maintenance of electronic signal systems at critical points in the network. As a result, S-Bahn lines S2 and S26 will not operate between Pankow and Karow. Additionally, the S8 line is suspended between Pankow and Hohen Neuendorf. Replacement buses are scheduled to serve all affected sections, ensuring continued, albeit modified, travel options for commuters.

In the southern region of Berlin, further interruptions are in place due to ongoing work on signal systems. The S-Bahn lines S45, S46, and S47 are not running between Schöneweide and Neukölln. Moreover, the stretch between Schöneweide and Treptower Park is facing service interruptions, impacting the S8, S85, and S9 lines. For all these routes, replacement bus services have been organized to maintain connectivity for passengers.

Eastern Berlin is also affected, with the S75 line not operating between Wartenburg and Springpfuhl. Here, too, replacement buses are in place, designed to accommodate as many travelers as possible during the period of construction.

The S-Bahn company has indicated that all these temporary changes are scheduled to remain in effect until early Monday morning. Specifically, normal train services are expected to resume from 1:30 a.m. on Monday, allowing for the completion of the necessary maintenance and technical upgrades. Travelers using the affected routes are encouraged to allow additional time for their journeys and to consult the latest service updates from the S-Bahn Berlin for the most current information.

The construction works are part of ongoing efforts to modernize Berlin's rail infrastructure, aiming to improve overall reliability and safety. The use of electronic signal technology is intended to enhance train operations and reduce the likelihood of future disruptions. While the temporary suspension of train services may cause inconvenience, the long-term benefits are expected to contribute to a more efficient and robust transport network for the region.

Passengers can access further details about the replacement bus schedules and alternative travel options through official S-Bahn Berlin channels, including the company's website and mobile app. Information is also available at affected stations, where additional staff will be present to assist with travel queries and guidance during the construction period.

Authorities are urging all travelers to plan ahead and to be mindful of the extended travel times that may result from the use of replacement bus services. The S-Bahn Berlin apologizes for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public's understanding as these essential improvements are implemented.
