A police operation involving special forces took place in Berlin's Oberschöneweide district after a suspected drug dealer barricaded himself inside his apartment. The incident began when a witness observed a man discarding parts of what appeared to be a cannabis plantation into the trash on Saturday morning. This prompted the witness to alert local authorities, who then responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, police officers found discarded plant pots and components of an irrigation system outside the residential building, indicating the presence of an indoor cultivation setup. The officers attempted to contact the 36-year-old resident by knocking and ringing the doorbell, but received no response. As a result, law enforcement obtained a search warrant to enter the premises.

When officers prepared to enter the apartment, they discovered that the entryway and hallway had been fortified with wooden pallets, making access difficult. While attempting to gain entry, police detected flames and the smell of burning material coming from inside the apartment, raising concerns about a potential fire hazard. In response, the building was evacuated to ensure the safety of other residents.

Despite the smoke, the fire inside the apartment extinguished itself without spreading or causing injuries to others in the building. With the situation escalating, a Special Operations Command (SEK) unit was deployed to forcibly access the apartment. The team successfully entered the property and detained the suspect. During the intervention, the 36-year-old man sustained injuries, the specifics of which have not been disclosed by authorities.

Inside the apartment, officers discovered more than five kilograms of cannabis, as well as further evidence linking the suspect to illegal drug cultivation and distribution. Initial assessments by police also indicated that the man exhibited signs of psychological distress during the operation. Following his arrest, he was transported to a medical facility for evaluation by a mental health professional and was subsequently admitted for psychiatric care.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident, focusing on the origins of the cannabis plantation and the extent of the suspect's involvement in the illegal drug trade. The police have not released further details regarding potential accomplices or additional charges. The incident highlights ongoing efforts by Berlin law enforcement to combat illegal drug activities within the city, particularly those involving indoor cultivation and distribution networks.

The swift response from both regular officers and special forces ensured the safety of bystanders and residents, minimizing potential harm from the fire and securing a significant quantity of illegal substances. The case remains under investigation as authorities seek to determine the full scope of the criminal activities involved.
