Berlin police conducted a significant operation involving more than 200 officers on Friday, executing six search warrants across the city following a series of criminal incidents that began with a burglary and escalated to gunfire and attempted extortion. The coordinated law enforcement action led to the arrest of three male suspects in connection with the case, while two additional individuals were already in pre-trial detention for separate reasons.

The investigation targets five men aged between 24 and 48 who are suspected of multiple offenses committed between April and June 2026. Authorities allege that the suspects participated in various crimes, including residential burglaries, an attempted aggravated extortion, and violations of weapons regulations.

According to the police findings, three of the suspects, aged 27 to 48, are believed to have broken into a residential property in the Spandau district of Berlin in April 2026. Subsequently, on May 1, 2026, shots were reportedly fired at the same building, further escalating the seriousness of the case. No information regarding injuries from the gunfire has been released.

In a related incident in June 2026, a 24-year-old and a 29-year-old suspect allegedly attempted to coerce an unidentified individual into paying money to which they were not entitled, reportedly using firearms during the attempt. The victim of this extortion attempt remains unidentified, and police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances or possible connections between the incidents.

During the execution of the search warrants on Thursday afternoon, officers located and apprehended three of the suspects at various locations throughout Berlin. These individuals are expected to be brought before a magistrate to determine whether formal arrest warrants will be issued. The other two suspects targeted by the investigation are currently detained for unrelated legal matters.

In the course of the searches, law enforcement officials seized several items as evidence, including mobile phones and illicit narcotics. Police have not specified the types or quantities of drugs found. The operation involved specialized units alongside local officers, reflecting the seriousness and complexity of the case.

The ongoing investigation is focused on clarifying the specific roles of each suspect and establishing the full sequence of events leading to the escalation from burglary to gunfire and attempted extortion. Authorities have indicated that further details may be released as the case develops and as more evidence is analyzed. The police are continuing to examine whether the suspects may be connected to other unsolved crimes in the area, particularly given the nature and timing of the incidents under investigation.

Berlin has experienced a series of violent incidents in recent months, with law enforcement responding to increasing reports of firearms being discharged in residential neighborhoods. The police have intensified efforts to combat organized crime and related offenses, resulting in several high-profile raids and arrests across the city. The current case is one of several ongoing operations aimed at reducing violent crime and ensuring public safety.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with additional information about the incidents or the individuals involved to contact the police. No further arrests have been announced, and the identities of the suspects have not been disclosed in accordance with privacy regulations.
