Berlin Police Issue Warning to CDU Amidst Asylum Debate

Thu 30th Jan, 2025

In light of ongoing discussions surrounding asylum policies in the Bundestag, the Berlin police have issued a cautionary alert directed at members, officials, and representatives of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The warning stems from concerns that left-wing extremists may be planning disruptive actions targeting the party.

According to a communication from Dirk Reitze, the CDU's regional director, the State Criminal Police Office has indicated that various CDU offices could be potential targets for protests and disturbances. Reitze emphasized the need for vigilance, urging party members to take precautions and consider contacting local police for assistance.

Reports from CDU representatives suggest that staff members have begun locking their citizen's offices as a preventive measure. One parliamentarian noted a reliance on physical barriers, hoping that such measures would avert any incidents.

Berlin is recognized as a stronghold for left-wing extremism, with approximately 600 individuals associated with this violent faction. Offices belonging to representatives of various political parties regularly face vandalism, including paint and other offensive substances.

The significance of this warning is underscored by a recent incident where a shooting hall in Menden, North Rhine-Westphalia, was defaced with slogans such as "Never again CDU" and "Antifa on the Offensive," just hours before a scheduled appearance by Friedrich Merz, the CDU faction leader.

As the asylum debate intensifies, the political landscape remains charged, prompting heightened security measures and increased scrutiny of public safety around political establishments.
