Berlin Man Charged After Classmates Consume Cannabis-Infused Cake

A 28-year-old man in Berlin faces legal charges after classmates unknowingly consumed a cake infused with cannabis. The case, which is being handled by the public prosecutor's office, involves allegations of negligence that led to health issues among several students.

According to the authorities, the incident took place in November 2024 at a community residence of the Evangelical Johannesstift in Lichtenberg. The accused, who was training to become a caregiver, reportedly left the cannabis-laced cake unattended in the kitchen during a birthday celebration, failing to disclose its contents. This oversight resulted in ten classmates experiencing severe side effects, including nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, and irregular heart rhythms.

Witnesses described a chaotic scene, with some individuals losing consciousness and requiring intervention from emergency services. Firefighters and police were called to the scene to manage the situation and provide medical assistance. The school's management confirmed that the health of several students was significantly affected.

In the wake of the incident, the student claimed he had confused the cake with another batch intended for a private gathering. Initially, he refrained from discussing the matter, leading to prolonged uncertainty about the cause of the students' ailments. Following the incident, the man's training contract was terminated, preventing him from continuing his studies at the institution.

The court will now address the charges of negligent bodily harm and the unauthorized distribution of cannabis. The timeline for the trial at the Tiergarten District Court remains unclear as the legal proceedings move forward.
