In Berlin, the race for the title of Footballer of the Year is heating up as both major football clubs in the city, Hertha BSC and 1. FC Union, have each nominated four players for the prestigious award. This initiative, organized by the Berlin Football Association (BFV), serves not only as a competition but also as a reflection of the current football sentiment in the city.

The candidates from 1. FC Union include Danilho Doekhi, Benedict Hollerbach, Leopold Querfeld, and goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow. On the other hand, Hertha BSC's nominees consist of Michael Cuisance, Toni Leistner, Ibrahim Maza, and last year's winner, Fabian Reese. Notably, both Hollerbach and Maza will not be part of the Berlin teams in the upcoming season, with Hollerbach transferring to FSV Mainz 05 and Maza moving to Bayer Leverkusen.

Furthermore, the voting process for the best female footballer of Berlin also features prominent players. Alongside the previous year's champion Elfie Wellhausen from Hertha BSC, two players from Union who have recently been promoted to the Bundesliga, Nina Ehegötz and Dina Orschmann, are in contention for the award.

In addition to the professional categories, the BFV has recognized amateur talent, with eight contenders for the title of Amateur Footballer of the Year. Notable among them are Patrick Breitkreuz from BFC Preußen, who has recently moved up to the Regionalliga, Pokalfinalist Björn Jopek of BSV Eintracht Mahlsdorf, and former professional player Änis Ben-Hatira from Hertha BSC's regional team.
