Berlin Expands Digital Services: Over 400 Administrative Tasks Available Online

Tue 29th Jul, 2025

The Berlin administration has significantly enhanced its digital offerings, now allowing residents to complete more than 400 administrative tasks online. This initiative aims to improve accessibility and efficiency in public services, enabling residents to manage various bureaucratic processes from the comfort of their homes.

The services available online include some of the most frequently utilized by citizens, such as electronic registration of residence. According to the Senate Chancellery, this service alone accounts for approximately 25% of all appointments at local citizen service centers. Furthermore, residents can now also handle the registration and deregistration of vehicles, apply for resident parking permits, and request digital registration certificates through the central service portal of the state of Berlin.

Recent updates to the digital services include the online application for building permits under simplified procedures, as well as reporting cases of fraudulent use of residential properties. One notable milestone was reached in mid-July when the 400th digital service was introduced, allowing artists to apply for long-term work stipends online.

Martina Klement, the State Secretary for Digitalization and Administrative Modernization, emphasized the continuous growth of the digital service offerings. She encouraged residents to check online for the availability of services before visiting government offices, highlighting that digital public services ensure round-the-clock access for users.

This push towards digitalization is part of a broader trend in governmental efforts to modernize and streamline administrative processes, reflecting a commitment to meeting the needs of residents in an increasingly digital world. As the service portfolio expands, it is expected that more residents will take advantage of these convenient online options, reducing the need for in-person visits to administrative offices.
