Final Confirmation of Berlin's Bundestag Election Results: No Changes Reported

Mon 10th Mar, 2025

The official results of the Bundestag election held on February 23 have been confirmed by the Berlin State Electoral Committee, with no significant alterations to the preliminary results released on election night.

According to State Election Director Stephan Bröchler, the review of the vote count across the twelve electoral districts in Berlin resulted in only minor adjustments, primarily due to recording or transmission errors. A number of polling stations were recounted in recent weeks to ensure accuracy.

In this election, the Left Party emerged victorious, securing 19.9% of the second votes. They were followed by the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Mayor Kai Wegner, which received 18.3%, and the Greens, garnering 16.8%. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) achieved 15.2%, just ahead of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) with 15.1%. The Business Start-up Coalition (BSW) received 6.6%, while the Free Democratic Party (FDP) accounted for 3.8% of the votes.

In light of the election results, the CDU candidate in Tempelhof-Schöneberg, who lost by a mere 61 votes, has requested a complete recount. Meanwhile, former CDU Secretary General Czaja has urged the party to consider collaboration with the Left Party, challenging the traditional boundaries of political alliances.

As the new 630-member Bundestag takes shape, Berlin will be represented by 24 members, one less than previously. The Left Party will have six representatives, while the CDU and Greens will each have five. The AfD and SPD will each have four seats.

The nationwide election results will be finalized by the Federal Election Committee on March 14.
