Ben Zucker, a prominent Schlager singer, has openly shared the challenges he faces with alcoholism, revealing that he is not yet ready to give up alcohol entirely. During an interview, he acknowledged his struggles, stating that he identifies himself as an alcoholic, a term that many others in similar situations shy away from due to the stigma attached to it.
Zucker's battle with alcohol began during the COVID-19 pandemic when he lost control after the cancellation of his second arena tour. Isolated from family and friends, he turned to alcohol as a means of coping. This reliance escalated over several months, prompting him to seek professional help.
Approximately a year ago, Zucker entered a rehabilitation facility for a 21-day program aimed at treating alcohol dependency. His group therapy sessions included a diverse range of individuals, from entrepreneurs to medical professionals, all of whom shared similar stories of succumbing to addiction under the pressures of their demanding careers.
Despite undergoing therapy, Zucker has not completely abstained from drinking. He continues to enjoy vodka on the rocks as a form of reward after performances or as a way to unwind. However, he admits that he struggles to maintain control over his consumption.
The singer emphasized that recovery is a gradual process, highlighting that simply attending rehabilitation does not equate to a complete resolution of issues. He noted that it is essential to understand one's relationship with alcohol and the reasons behind the need for it. Zucker is currently focused on taking the time necessary to navigate these complexities, admitting that he is not yet prepared to eliminate alcohol from his life.
As of now, Zucker has not experienced significant health issues directly attributed to his alcohol use, but he recognizes the potential risks involved. He expressed concern that while he has escaped serious health consequences thus far, he is aware that this may not last indefinitely. The fear of developing serious conditions, such as liver damage, looms over him as a constant reminder of the seriousness of his situation.
