Munich, February 11 - There's plenty being written about the Showdown in the Olympiahalle next week when Bayern Basketball look to avenge their lone loss of the season against the s.Oliver Baskets. But before they get there, they will face a potential trap game, traveling north to take on BV Chemnitz 99 Saturday night.
"This game will be a tough match," said Bayern head coach Dirk Bauermann. "They are a good team and are the surprise of the season."
Chemnitz currently sit third in the ProA table, 2 points from an automatic promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga. Bayern have been winning their home matches by an average of 23 points, but it was these Niners who led most of the match back on October 24th and came within a Gary Johnson missed three pointer at the final buzzer to take the game into overtime. Johnson's 18 points almost led his team to victory.
Bayern needed both a defensive effort to hold them and an offensive spurt led by Jonathan Wallace (19 pts) and Beckham Wyrick (16 pts) to clinch the close win. The players are well aware that they may not escape so easily this time around.
"We have two important and tough matches games in front of us," explained guard Arthur Kolodziejski at this week's press conference. "Our opponents give it their all when they play us, and a bit more." Tip off is at 19:30 at Richard Hartmann Hall.
Bayern return home for the aforementioned showdown against the Baskets. Unless they move the match to the Allianz Arena, there are no more tickets available. Over 12,000 seats have been sold. If you are lucky to have a ticket, the match tips off at 14:30 with entertainment starting at 12:30. The match will be broadcast on Bavarian TV. (Editor's note: Salman will be tweeting live at the Showdown. Follow the action @sal_TMT_sports.)
