Munich. Bavaria's population is aging and shrinking rapidly. According to a new forecast from the statistical office of the Bavarian federal government, by the year 2060 the population will decrease from the current 12.5 million to 10.7 million, says TZ. Though the immigration level is high, there are not enough births.
The population is aging. Currently, there is not even one in twenty Bavarian residents older than 80 years. By 2060 there will be almost one in seven older than 80, states the forecast. Quite massive changes will occur in retirement age: now we have 19 % aged over 65 years, by 2060 there will be more than 34 %. The proportion of young people is shrinking.
Statisticians assume that there will not be a significant changes in the future birth rate. Currently, every woman gives birth to an average to 1.4 children. Life expectancy is increasing due to medical advances and is expected that men will live about 8 years longer to an average of 85.2 years. Among women, the life expectancy will increase by 7 years to 89.4 years.
There are 17,000 to 33,000 more people expected to immigrate than emigrate.
