The Bavarian Minister of Health, Judith Gerlach, is currently visiting the United States for a series of discussions aimed at strengthening health sector collaborations. This visit, which is expected to last until Sunday, includes meetings with researchers, healthcare professionals, start-ups, and representatives from prominent universities, including Columbia University, Harvard University, and Stanford University.

During her trip, Gerlach is scheduled to meet with Dr. Kiame Mahaniah, the Health Minister of Massachusetts, further emphasizing the focus on international cooperation in health policy. Key sites on her itinerary include Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and NVIDIA, a leading technology company based in San Francisco.

Gerlach highlighted the long-standing transatlantic friendship between Bavaria and the U.S., stressing that health policy increasingly relies on global networking and collaboration. She pointed out that sharing experiences and expertise can lead to mutual benefits and advancements in health care.

A significant theme of her discussions will be the digital transformation within the health sector. Gerlach noted that technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and robotics are fundamentally reshaping medicine. She emphasized the need for prompt action, stating that major global players in healthcare are not waiting for others to catch up.

Bavaria has made substantial strides in recent years, positioning itself as a leader in digital health initiatives within Germany. In addition to digitalization and artificial intelligence, the trip will also focus on preventive health measures. Gerlach reiterated that strengthening health before the onset of diseases is crucial. The goal is not only to extend life but also to enhance the quality of life, allowing individuals to live actively and independently.

By investing early in areas like physical activity, nutrition, and preventive care, it is possible to achieve a greater number of healthy years, according to Gerlach. She aims to gain insights into research related to prevention and healthy aging during her U.S. engagements.
