Bavaria Leads Solar Power Production in Germany, but the North Shines in Peak Month

Germany's solar energy sector continues to grow, with new data revealing that Bavaria has emerged as the top-performing state in solar electricity generation during the first half of 2026. An extensive analysis based on figures from the German Weather Service and industry evaluations highlights the regional performance of private photovoltaic systems across the country.

According to the latest assessment, a standard residential solar installation with a ten-kilowatt peak (kWp) output in Bavaria produced an estimated 6,089 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity from January through June 2026. This output marks a notable rise, placing Bavaria ahead of all other German states and overtaking Saarland, which led the rankings in the previous year. Baden-Württemberg closely follows in second place, with similar systems delivering approximately 6,035 kWh in the same period.

The data further reveals that Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein secured third and fourth positions, generating 5,790 kWh and 5,770 kWh respectively.
