Austria prepares for up to 40 centimeters of fresh snow

Accordingly, it snows heavily in Carinthia, East Tyrol and in Salzburg as well as in Styria. In Tyrol, the focus is on the Brenner region and the rear Zillertal.
Rain and snowfall spread from the southwest on Tuesday, according to the Austrian Meteorological Service (ZAMG). "Especially from the Zillertal Alps to the Radstädter Tauern and south of it it snows heavily," ZAMG informs. The snow line drops to 900 to 400 meters above sea level, depending on the intensity of the precipitation. During the day, the wind shifts to northwest to northeast and blows moderately. Afternoon temperatures 2 to 7 degrees.
According to ZAMG, the focus of precipitation will slowly shift eastward during the night. Then it rains or snows partly heavily in Lower Carinthia up to the eastern lowlands. The snow line will then mostly drop between 300 and 600 meters. In the west, on the other hand, precipitation will ease and subside. Along the main ridge of the Alps, a brisk north wind will also blow.
In the Zillertal (Tyrol), there may be up to 20 centimeters of fresh snow in the valleys. On the mountains, up to 40 centimeters are possible. "Due to the wet snow, snow breakage may occur," says the warning for Mayerhofen. It is already snowing at the Brenner Pass. On the Brenner freeway A13, traffic is currently running smoothly, as can be seen on webcams.
In South Tyrol, it is already snowing heavily in the mountains, tweets Kachelmannwetter. "Since this morning often 10 to 15 centimeters of fresh snow". The Civil Defense of South Tyrol has issued a warning. For all main valleys in the upper Vinschgau, Wipptal and Pustertal, the alert level is yellow on Tuesday. The snow line is expected to be between 500 and 1000 meters above sea level. In the mountains, between 10 and 30 centimeters of snow will fall, in the valleys at higher altitudes, in Wipptal and Hochpustertal, snowfalls of 10 to a maximum of 20 centimeters are expected, in Obervinschgau 5 to 10 centimeters of fresh snow.
Heavy snowfall in Sweden triggered chaos. Stockholm was particularly affected. The Swedish weather service speaks of "snow cannons".
