Global automotive supplier Aumovio has revealed plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 4,000 positions worldwide, with significant implications for its operations in Bavaria, Germany. According to company reports, three Bavarian sites are set to be affected, placing more than 300 local jobs at risk.
The most substantial impact is anticipated at the Lindau facility, where up to 180 jobs may be eliminated. The company also expects to cut around 100 positions in Regensburg and more than 30 roles in Ingolstadt. These reductions are part of a broader restructuring plan that will see high numbers of job losses across Germany, including up to 275 positions in Ulm, 220 in Frankfurt am Main, and 130 in Markdorf.
Aumovio, which emerged as an independent entity following its separation from Continental, is implementing these measures to bolster operational efficiency and ensure sustainability amid ongoing industry challenges. The company has stated its intention to collaborate closely with employee representatives in an effort to minimize the scope of layoffs in Germany. Measures are being designed to ensure that the restructuring process is as socially responsible as possible, including the introduction of a voluntary departure program available to affected employees starting in March.
The restructuring extends beyond Germany's borders, with facilities in India, Singapore, Romania, Serbia, and Mexico also set to experience workforce reductions. This global downsizing reflects the company's strategy to adapt to changing market conditions and the broader difficulties currently facing the automotive supply sector.
Aumovio's management, led by CEO Philipp von Hirschheydt, aims to lower research and development expenses to below ten percent of revenue by 2027. The company plans to streamline its technological offerings, concentrate resources on core business areas, and adjust its product portfolio to market demands. Additional initiatives focused on standardization, automation, and improved organizational structures are being introduced to further decrease staffing requirements within development divisions.
The automotive industry in Germany is navigating a period of significant transformation, with suppliers particularly affected by a combination of technological shifts, intense global competition, and economic pressures. Many firms in the sector have announced restructuring measures and workforce reductions in recent years as they reposition themselves for future growth and stability.
In response to these developments, Aumovio continues to emphasize its commitment to responsible transition measures for its workforce and ongoing dialogue with stakeholders to address the challenges presented by sectoral change.
