ATM Explosion in Hamburg: Police Foil Escape Attempt

In the early hours of Thursday morning, a dramatic incident unfolded in the Bramfeld district of Hamburg when at least two suspects detonated an ATM belonging to Hamburger Sparkasse. The explosion completely destroyed the machine, allowing the perpetrators a brief opportunity to gather the cash before attempting to flee the scene.

According to reports, the suspects managed to load some of the stolen money into their getaway vehicle, a dark Audi station wagon. However, their escape was thwarted just moments later when police patrol units arrived at the scene. Officers quickly blocked the vehicle, forcing the suspects to abandon it and flee on foot.

As they exited the vehicle, the thieves grabbed at least one bag containing cash and made a hasty departure towards the nearby Seebekring area. Eyewitnesses observed the suspects climbing over garage rooftops, effectively evading capture as they disappeared into the surrounding neighborhood.

Police officers pursued the individuals on foot and even discharged a warning shot in an attempt to apprehend them. Despite these efforts, the suspects continued their flight, managing to evade law enforcement.

During their escape, the criminals left behind a sports bag filled with cash, along with clothing items, a ski mask, a mobile phone, and a headset. In response to the incident, police initiated an extensive manhunt involving over thirty patrol units. A police helicopter was also deployed to assist in tracking the suspects.

The abandoned Audi has been recovered by authorities and is currently undergoing forensic examination. The investigation into the ATM explosion has been handed over to the Landeskriminalamt (State Criminal Police Office), which is working diligently to identify the suspects.
