In a shocking incident that occurred on January 22 in Aschaffenburg, details have emerged regarding a brutal attack that has left the community in disbelief. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann has provided further information about the event, which reportedly targeted a group of children.

According to Herrmann, the suspect, a 28-year-old Afghan national, appeared to have specifically chosen a kindergarten group as his target while they were in a local park. The educators accompanying the children sensed something unsettling about the suspect's behavior and decided to change their path. Unfortunately, the suspect followed them closely.

At one point during the attack, the suspect forcibly removed a two-year-old boy's hat and scarf and subsequently stabbed the child several times with a kitchen knife measuring 32 centimeters in length. Tragically, the child succumbed to his injuries.

The violence did not end there; the assailant then turned his attention to a two-year-old Syrian girl who was also in the stroller. In a heroic attempt to thwart the attack, a 59-year-old German educator intervened but was pushed aside and suffered a fracture to her left hand during the struggle.

As the situation escalated, a 41-year-old German man who was in the park with his own young child noticed the dangerous scenario. Displaying remarkable bravery, he confronted the attacker but was fatally injured in the process. Fortunately, his young son was unharmed, despite witnessing the horrific event.

Another bystander, a 72-year-old German man, also attempted to assist and sustained multiple stab wounds, resulting in serious injuries.

As more bystanders joined the effort to subdue the suspect, he fled the scene but was apprehended approximately twelve minutes after the first emergency call was placed. The police captured him near train tracks, where the bloodied weapon used in the attack was subsequently found and secured.

Minister Herrmann assured the public that the attacker acted alone, and there are currently no indications of accomplices involved in this tragic incident.
