A week after a devastating fire at a residential property in Ellrich, located in the Nordhausen district of Thuringia, police have apprehended a 48-year-old man in Berlin. Authorities have determined that the fire, which resulted in substantial damage estimated in the hundreds of thousands of euros, was deliberately set.
According to the investigation led by the criminal police, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle speeding away from the scene immediately after the flames erupted. This critical information prompted a coordinated effort involving police forces from Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt to conduct search operations.
The arrest took place on Tuesday, following the execution of search warrants on the previous Friday. The suspect has since been detained in a correctional facility as the investigation continues.
The fire not only caused severe damage to the primary structure but also spread partially to an adjacent building. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The local community is still recovering from the aftermath of the fire, which has raised concerns about safety and security in the area.
Local authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
