Apple TV+ to Offer Free Major League Soccer Games for Subscribers

Fri 31st Jan, 2025

Apple has announced an exciting initiative for sports fans, particularly those interested in Major League Soccer (MLS). Starting February 22, 2025, the streaming service will provide a complimentary weekly soccer match for all Apple TV+ subscribers, aiming to enhance visibility and engagement with the league.

This move follows Apple's previous success with its 'Friday Night Baseball' broadcasts, which began in 2022. Initially free, that service has transitioned to a subscription model, similar to the new MLS offering. Apple TV+ subscribers can enjoy the weekly free match without needing additional subscriptions.

The inaugural free game will take place on February 23 at 7 PM ET, featuring San Diego FC competing against LA Galaxy. These matches will be accessible to viewers in over 100 countries, with no local blackout restrictions, ensuring that fans across the globe can tune in.

In addition to the weekly free game, Apple has plans for a comprehensive viewing experience, which includes All-Star games, playoffs under the 'Audi MLS Cup,' and select 'MLS NEXT Pro' matches. This strategy aligns with Apple's broader goal of promoting soccer in the U.S., particularly following the heightened interest generated by Lionel Messi's recent signing with Inter Miami.

Apple's MLS viewing options are available through a Season Pass, which can be purchased monthly or as a full-season package. Without an Apple TV+ subscription, the cost is EUR14.99 per month or EUR99 for the season, while combined with TV+, subscribers pay EUR12.99 per month or EUR79 for the entire season. Families can utilize Apple's Family Sharing feature to share the subscription with up to five members.

Furthermore, Apple plans to enhance the viewing experience for its upcoming Vision Pro device, incorporating features like 3D audio to elevate the sports-watching experience.
