Apple is gearing up for the launch of its iPhone 17 series this fall, and significant design changes are on the horizon, particularly concerning the camera layout and overall device structure.
Recent leaks from various sources suggest that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature an innovative camera layout, moving away from the conventional design. Instead of the traditional square camera bump located on one side, the new models are expected to incorporate a horizontal 'Camera Bar' that spans the width of the devices. This alteration is anticipated to introduce a dual-tone aesthetic, with a darker finish for the camera section, although the specific functional benefits of this redesign remain unclear.
Notably, this new design approach aligns with some existing models from Google, which have also adopted a similar elongated camera arrangement. In the case of the iPhone 17 series, while the image sensors will still be positioned on one side, the microphone and flash will be relocated to the right side of the camera bar.
In addition to the Pro models, leaks indicate that the iPhone 17 Air could be Apple's thinnest device to date. Renderings of this model also feature the full-width camera bar, but it is expected to house a single camera. This limitation suggests that the iPhone 17 Air may not support advanced features like Spatial Video, which require multiple camera sensors.
According to recent renderings shared on social media, the iPhone 17 Air will sport a 6.6-inch display and a slim profile measuring just 5.5 mm in thickness. The color scheme for the camera bar is anticipated to match that of the device's body, creating a seamless and elegant look. However, it appears that the standard iPhone 17 model will retain the traditional camera bump design, maintaining continuity with previous iterations.
Further predictions from industry insiders hint at additional design modifications across the iPhone 17 lineup, including the expected use of OLED displays supplied by Samsung, adhering to the M14 specifications commonly found in flagship smartphones.
As the launch date approaches, these insights paint an intriguing picture of Apple's upcoming products, highlighting a shift in design philosophy that reflects both aesthetic preferences and functional advancements.
