Amazon Expands Prime Day to Four-Day Shopping Event

Tue 17th Jun, 2025

In a significant expansion of its annual shopping event, Amazon has announced that Prime Day will now span four days, from July 8 to July 11, 2025. Previously, the event lasted for 36 to 48 hours, but this new format is seen as a shift towards a more extensive shopping experience, akin to a 'Prime Week.'

Amazon introduced a new feature called 'Today's Deal Highlights,' which will showcase daily rotating discounts aimed at encouraging customers to engage frequently with the platform. These flash discounts are designed to incentivize shoppers to visit Amazon's site regularly and take advantage of the limited-time offers.

However, this extended shopping event raises concerns for Amazon's workforce. Reports from the U.S. Senate have indicated a high rate of injuries among employees during previous Prime Days. A committee led by Senator Bernie Sanders revealed that nearly 45% of workers in U.S. fulfillment centers reported injuries during the 2019 Prime Day, with over 10% of these injuries requiring reporting to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This statistic is more than double the industry average, raising alarm about the working conditions during peak sales periods.

Amazon has contested these findings, describing the report as inaccurate and outdated. A company spokesperson stated that the document draws broad conclusions based on unverified anecdotes and misrepresents older data with factual inaccuracies.

To access the discounts available during Prime Day, customers must hold an Amazon Prime subscription. In a bid to attract younger consumers, Amazon is now offering discounted Prime memberships for individuals aged 18 to 22.
